Consent to Travel
In the wake of growing concerns for the safety of children during travel, numerous governments, including Canada, have established special regulations. These regulations dictate that a notarized consent to travel document must be provided to verify parental or legal guardian permission for a minor to cross international borders. It is important to emphasize that this requirement is supplementary to other legal obligations and documents.
It’s crucial to recognize that a basic travel consent letter or form lacking notarization from a licensed notary public may face rejection from border officials due to the susceptibility of such documents to forgery. At 1800 Notary, we offer the specialized service of providing notarized Consent to Travel documents to ensure your compliance with these essential regulations, helping you safeguard the well-being of your child during their travels.

Situations Requiring a Travel Consent Document:
- Child Traveling With One Parent:
If a child is traveling with only one parent, the other parent must provide notarized consent.
- Child Traveling Without Either Parent:
If a child is traveling alone or with someone other than their parents, notarized consent from both parents (or the sole legal guardian) is required.
- Child With One Legal Parent:
If a child has only one recognized parent, as stated on the birth certificate, a notarized copy of the birth certificate or the original may be enough to permit travel.

Customizing the Travel Consent Template:
You will need to adjust the template to suit your specific circumstances and to meet the particular requirements of the jurisdictions where your child will be traveling. While the templates cover basic needs for common scenarios, requirements for such documents can vary widely by country and may change over time. It’s advisable to check with your travel agent, airline, and/or the consulates of the destination countries for the exact requirements applicable to your child’s trip.
If you prefer not to modify the templates yourself, or if you’re unsure how to do so, the 1800 Notary team can prepare the consent document for you. The current fee for this service is $99 plus applicable taxes. This fee includes both drafting the document and having it signed before one of our Notaries.
