Fingerprints Outside Canada

Outside Canada and Need a Fingerprint-Based Canadian Police Certificate?

Away from Canada but still require a Canadian Police Certificate? Red Seal Notary, an accredited fingerprinting agency, provides card scan services. This enables us to digitize your ink fingerprints taken by your local police abroad and submit them electronically to the RCMP for processing.

RCMP Accreditation Letter

If obtaining a fingerprint-based Canadian Police Certificate is necessary but traveling to Canada isn’t an option, reach out to Red Seal Notary to begin the process today.

Where Do I Start?

Step one: moisturize. Preparing your fingers is key to ensuring high-quality fingerprints. Keep your hands hydrated by applying moisturizer frequently for a few days before getting your fingerprints taken. Avoid using harsh soaps or cleaners that may dry out your skin. Healthy skin improves fingerprint quality and reduces the chance of delays, as dry skin is one of the leading causes of low-quality prints that may be rejected by the RCMP.

For certain foreign nationals, depending on their country of origin, a Temporary Resident Visa (visitor visa) is required to visit Canada. A letter of invitation is often a key document in this process. This letter must be provided by a Canadian resident who is inviting the individual applying for the visa.

Once the invitation letter is prepared and notarized, the visitor must include the original letter with their visa application and other required documents when submitting them to the Canadian consulate or embassy in their home country. Details on visa application requirements can typically be found on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website or the local Canadian Consulate’s website.

In most cases, visa offices require invitation letters to be notarized by a Notary Public.

For your convenience, we have provided a free sample invitation letter below that you can customize to meet your specific needs.

Fingerprints submitted to the RCMP are required to be destroyed in compliance with RCMP personal data protection regulations.

If submitting fingerprints to the FBI, refer to the linked poster below for helpful guidance on obtaining high-quality fingerprint impressions:

Digital Fingerprint Scanning Requirements:

For your application, ensure you provide the following:

  1. Two complete sets of ink fingerprints taken by your local police.
  2. Notarized copies of two valid IDs (e.g., passport and driver’s license).
  3. A recent, passport-sized photo signed and dated by the notary certifying your IDs.
  4. A Third Party Consent Form authorizing the RCMP to release your results – ensure it includes a fingerprint.
  5. A completed information form (included in the initial download).
  6. Payment of $158.20 CAD per individual submission, including RCMP fees and tax (credit card authorization form included).

Additional Tips for Submissions:

  • Ensure rolled fingerprints cover a wide surface area to improve data accuracy for RCMP processing.
  • Before leaving, confirm your Third Party Consent Form includes a clear fingerprint, preferably chosen by the technician.
  • If your notary is hesitant to sign your photo, they can notarize a separate form with an identical loose photo attached.
  • For immigration or citizenship, include a copy of the request letter with file numbers and destination addresses.
  • For Canadian federal screenings, ensure the ORI number of the processing department is included.
  • If fingerprints are of poor quality, submit additional sets to increase the likelihood of acceptance.
  • Fully complete all forms; missing details will prevent submission to the RCMP.
